How do I convert my docker compose file into docker files and qovery configuration?
Hi @Ben - thanks for kicking off this topic here. Can you please provide your Docker Compose if you have one? Then, I can use it as an example to explain how to do it.
Note: Qovery does not provide a one-click way to import a docker-compose file, but since Qovery supports Docker containers and is built to run production workload. You can manually translate your docker-compose configuration into the Qovery configuration.
Sure @rophilogene here is the Supabase Docker Compose file that would be a helpful example for the community.
# Usage
# Start: docker compose up
# With helpers: docker compose -f docker-compose.yml -f ./dev/docker-compose.dev.yml up
# Stop: docker compose down
# Destroy: docker compose -f docker-compose.yml -f ./dev/docker-compose.dev.yml down -v --remove-orphans

Hi @Ben , Iβll try my best to explain the key points on how to convert your Docker Compose file into Qovery configuration.
Here are the main things I noticed:
-
There are 12 services:
βstudio
βkong
βauth
βrest
βrealtime
βstorage
βimgproxy
βmeta
βfuntions
βanalytics
βdb
βvector
-
All those services use public container images hosted on DockerHub. So they will be easily usable on Qovery
-
The
db
service is a Postgres v15 - since Qovery provides built-in support for Postgres 15, we will not import this service from the Docker Compose file. -
The deployment order is the following (you can check with the
depends_on
property for each service):
β 1 βdb
andvector
β 2 βanalytics
,imgproxy
,
β 3 βfunctions
,meta
,rest
,realtime
,kong
,studio
β 4 βimgproxy
Qovery will optimize the deployment speed by keeping the deployment order. β Configure your Qovery Deployment Order -
We will avoid as much as possible to use Qovery Storage for
volumes
instruction. -
We will use the Enviroment Variable as File feature from Qovery to store the
./volumes/api/kong.yml:/home/kong/temp.yml:ro
Kong configuration. -
We will import the Environment Variables referenced into the
environment
property for all services. -
We can import the same health check inside Qovery - itβs optional, but itβs a good practice to keep the parameter provided by the Docker Compose file.
-
We will keep the
entrypoint
,command
, andports
commands from each service. -
For Kong, you have 2 environment variables,
KONG_NGINX_PROXY_PROXY_BUFFER_SIZE
andKONG_NGINX_PROXY_PROXY_BUFFERS
β I am pretty sure that those one need to modify the Qovery Service Advanced settingsnetwork.ingress.proxy_buffer_size_kb
β Service Advanced Settings | Docs | Qovery -
@Ben question for you: What services must be accessible from the Internet? I assume
kong
, but are there any other services also?
Here is a record where I added some apps - it will be easier to understand than writing down every detail
I hope it helps - let me know if you have more questions
