When we set that a cluster has 3-10 nodes, that means 3-10 instances of the selected type, right?

Absolutely, it does mean 3-10 nodes of the selected type, 3 being the minimum number of nodes running on your infrastructure at any time, and 10 being the maximum number of nodes that can automatically be deployed as traffic grows.
